Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find a therapist that is the right fit for me?
An initial search through a psychologist’s website can help you start to get a feel if their working style and expertise might be a fit for you. Usually the best way to tell if you are compatible with a therapist is to meet with them for an initial visit. It may take you a few sessions to really feel a therapist out, so it should always be an ongoing discussion as to how you are feeling and if you wish to continue.
How many appointments will we have?
Every individual is different and the amount of sessions we have depends on the progress you are making in session. It is an ongoing and collaborative discussion between the therapist and the client.
How often do we meet?
We typically recommend that a client begin with weekly sessions. This will allow us to make sure we are the right fit and it tends to be easier for clients to see progress with more regular attendance. As you continue to progress in therapy, it may make sense to reduce the frequency in which we meet depending on the type of treatment you are receiving.
How long is each appointment?
Depending on the type of treatment, sessions with clients range from 45-120 minutes. Appointments for evaluations and initial trauma therapy appointments can range from 90-120 minutes.
What if I need to cancel an appointment I have already made?
We require 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel an appointment that has already been scheduled. You can reach us via phone, text, or email should you need to cancel. The full fee may be charged for an appointment that is cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice.
What if you are not in the area I live?
We are licensed in the state of California, which means that we are able to provide services to clients who live anywhere in California. We also operate a 100% virtual practice, which means you get to enjoy engaging in therapy from the comfort of your home, no matter where that is in California.
How do I set up an initial appointment with you?
We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so that you can determine if your chosen therapist would be the right fit for you. We are also partnered with Rula and you are welcome to set up an appointment with either one us through that platform.
Is my patient health information (PHI) protected?
It absolutely is! All forms of communication are HIPAA-compliant. This includes whether you contact us via email, phone, and when we have our sessions over video. We only use platforms where your information will remain protected according to HIPAA guidelines.
Can you prescribe me medication?
While we are licensed clinical psychologists, we are not licensed prescribers, and thus do not prescribe medications. Our focus as psychologists is to provide individual/couples therapy to help increase quality of life. We recommend seeking out a psychiatrist or medical professional should you be interested in medication management. We are also happy to help by referring you to a psychiatrist in your area.
